Like much of our work, it doesn’t aim to provide a final answer, but a direction.

The prefix temp- can be read in different ways.
As time: fluid, relative and constantly unfolding.
As tempest: the uncertainty, tension and creative chaos that often precede clarity.
The suffix -esque turns the word into a quality rather than a subject.
Like kafkaesque, arabesque or grotesque, it suggests a character, an atmosphere or a way of seeing, without belonging to any single thing.

Tempesque is an independent web and graphic design studio founded by Maura Lo Moro in 2025.
What began as an online poster shop gradually evolved into a broader design practice spanning visual identities, websites and digital experiences.
Through years of experimentation, the project expanded beyond artwork and into systems, interfaces and brands.
Today, tempesque works across Italy and Spain with people who have a vision and need help bringing it into the world.

Inspired by the lanternfish (Myctophidae).
The lanternfish spends most of its life in the mesopelagic zone, where sunlight fades and familiar shapes become uncertain.
It doesn’t produce enough light to dominate its surroundings, only enough to recognize them. Its bioluminescence is used to communicate, to navigate and to reveal patterns that would otherwise remain invisible.
Every species carries a unique arrangement of photophores, a signature written in light rather than colour.
Each night it travels toward the surface before returning to the depths by dawn, carrying with it an intimate knowledge of both worlds.
We couldn’t imagine a better symbol for the way we approach design.

Every project begins in a state of possibility.

Patterns remain hidden.
At the beginning, nothing is fixed. An identity has not yet taken shape, and every direction is still open. Rather than searching for immediate answers, we spend time understanding the environment in which that identity exists.
We look at the relationships between people, places, ideas and behaviours, because meaningful design rarely comes from a single element. It emerges from the way those elements interact with one another.
